The ambush setpin replaced its ancestor the setapin in Badger Limestone Caverns. After millions of years without sunlight it went blind and lost its pigment. It appears pinkish because of its red blood. Since it could not see it had to develop a new hunting strategy. It now sits in pools of water waiting for prey to come and drink. Its beak has grown huge and has a serrated edge. In addition its breathing holes have become long tubes that stick out of the water so it can breathe while half submerged.
While they can walk on land they prefer to stay in the pools of water since their beak is so huge to lug around. They conserve energy by staying completely still. Once they have grabbed the prey they will drown it under the water until its dead. Then they can eat it with ease. They have strong stomach acid which helps it digest large pieces of un-chewed food. If threatened by predators they will vomit up this food, which tend to smell really bad and can even burn the skin.
