The aquatic plateworm split from its ancestor. The entire species came about when a cinnamon plateworm ended up traveling too deep and ended up in the small caves and tunnels which the water table forms. Because of the lower amounts of oxygen the plates on the aquatic plateworm's back keep their metallic luster for a longer period of time. It has also developed small fore appendages to hold its head above water so it can make more effective use of its nostrils as the scent of iron doesn't permeate through water well.
