The leaping urpoi has split from its ancestor the glowing urpoi. It has migrated to the sunlight zone where it found an abundance of flying swarmers. Over the generations of chasing after them it too would leap out of the water after them. Its tentacle membranes worked great for gliding for longer periods of time out of the water. It also changed its coloring to blend in with the blue ocean so it could sneak up on its prey.
They hunt in small packs and communicate via biolouminesent flashes on their sides. They will round up the flying swarmers until they have to jump out of the water. Once out of the water the, leaping urpoi will take turns leaping into the the trapped flying swarmers and skewering them on their hollow tooth. They also use their front tentacles to grab onto their prey. Once adjusted on the tip of their hollow tooth they will inject acid into their prey to help dissolve the inside and then will suck out the liquefied insides.
