Due to the effects of gigantism, the megatooth hafgufa has become one of the largest predators known to Sagan IV. Equipped with a mouthful of foot-long serrated teeth, this apex predator is capable of taking down its primary prey, the sandscale lyngbakr, with gruesome efficiency. Capable of tracking their pods from miles away, they are also capable to detecting which members are the weakest and thus most vulnerable to an attack. Once they've made a kill, they'll defend it from others of their kind, the only creatures that can provide a threat to them once they are fully grown. While chance encounters with one another can end in violence, more often than not if two members of the opposite sex meet they will instead mate. The resulting pregnancy lasts nearly two years, after which the resulting young are given no parental care and are instead left to scavenge off the kills of adults.
Females are much larger than the males who are only 3/4th their size. This is necessary as the males can be somewhat violent during the mating process, and even with their increased size and thickened skin they are often covered in deep scars. Said scars often serve as unique markings for identifying individuals one from another.
