The waxface had a problem. With its ever adapting prey, all waxfaces on Abello had to struggle to get food, but the population in the north had it the worst. The sand was too cold for the sea capispine, and capispine are pretty rare, with only a few showing up during mating season. This left the waxfaces with the beach capiri and the massive capiri. Being much too small to hunt the massive capiri, some members of the northern population were able to grow 10x larger with the aid of island gigantism, splitting into a new line.
The young filter-feed in their larval stage. The adult monstrous waxfaces hunt in tight packs of three or four as their normal prey are larger than they are, they kill in quick stabbing motions, using their tusks to inflict deep wounds in massive capiris' legs before jumping away. They also have grown horns to improve their hunting. In order to blend in and sneak up on prey, they break up their outlines with vibrant colors. They now have sails that go down the length of their bodies. Their breathing holes are now at the top of structures in the middle of these sails. The male fight for females with their tusks, with the loser usually losing a tusk. Thanks to genetic atavism, they have regained their hooves allowing them to support their massive bodies.
