The sandblaster split from its ancestor, the iceblaster. It has moved to the arid regions of Barlowe. Due to the lack of water it no longer shoots ice from its "butt-sacs", but shoots desert sand. This can get in the eyes or nostrils of predators thus allowing them to run away to safety. The sound of the blast makes a loud boom which can not only scare away predators but sometimes stun them as well. They still live in social groups, who communicate through loud butt honking.
