The skimming sapsucker evolved from the sapskimmers which lived in the Ferret Limestone Caves. They spread out into Flisch-Krakow Rainforest when their food source, the cave fernplent did and evolved along with it. The skimming sapsucker is half the size of its ancestor in order to more easily reproduce. Its hydrogen bubble is proportionately smaller as its small body does not require as much lift. By the same token the wings of the skimming sapsucker are also proportionately smaller. With the evolution of the tree dweller and its climbing technique, the skimming sapsucker is able to skim sap off of punctures left by tree dwellers as well as sucking it straight out of the plent. This behavior resulted in the skimming sapsucker's name. Swarms of skimming sapsuckers follow tree dwellers around to take full advantage of the easy meals and they will mate due to the abundance of food. This relationship has developed to the point that skimming sapsuckers only mate if there is a tree dweller nearby.
