The solar tether replaced it's ancestor on Abello Beach. they have grown larger due to island gigantism, allowing them to produce and store more spores. Even though they are quite large, they only weight about 5-10 pounds. In order to prevent the solar tether from being blown away by even slight breezes, they have evolved tethers that grip the ground, holding them in place until the sprouts are fully developed, when they release the tethers, floating up into the air to continue the life cycle.
