The swimmercrab split from its ancestor, the fuzzy scuttlecrab, Its fur became finer so it couldn’t hold as much water and its shell became lighter to aid buoyancy. Its claws became webbed, and the feet became more paddle-shaped to aid propulsion in the water. The swimmercrab went into the water so that if land vegetation became scarce, it could feed on the cleaner crastrum. The swimmercrab has also developed immunity to the cleaner crastrums venom, so it can feed on them easier.
