The airstrainer split from its ancestor, the pallenidust. The desert uktank and the airstrainer developed a symbiotic relationship win which it will grow in the breathing holes of the desert uktank. There they can exchange O2 for CO2 via photosynthesis. It also deposits precious water from the river and air for both to drink in the desert uktank's shell-tank.
The airstrainers cannot live on their own in the desert because it has much to little water, thus all of them live within the breathing holes of the desert uktanks. Their roots form a sugary substance around the breathing holes. When submerged in water this will melt and allow water to entire from the river. However, when the uktank comes up out of the water it will harden and keep water from escaping the breathing holes. It is also only in the river where the airstrainer detaches its cells. These cells flow pout of the breathing holes into another to colonize the shell-tanks of baby desert uktanks which have none yet.
