They have a wide range in body types, but they all fall within the same niche. They feed on the blood and skin of the hosts, using their sharp proboscises to pierce the bodies . Some species of host having multiple species of belumbia specialized to living on different parts of their bodies, such as species that live in the gills while others live on the skin. They have replaced their ancestor, but have not affected the other relatives.
