Ancestor:Descendants:

The capuni has split from the wading capiri. Due to the predation of the waxfaces, the wading capiris on the island were forced to adapt. Some populations in the north grew to defend against the waxfaces, while the population in the south shrunk in order to hide under the vegetation, giving rise to the capuni. The capuni have shrunk to 1/5th their ancestors size. They spend their entire lives on the beach, running under the fields of beach rustweeds. They are too small to eat the leaves, so they now they just pick out the seeds. In order to do so, their beak has receded a bit, with the front of their upper mouth developing a lip that is slightly prehensile. Their coloring has change to look like the shadows the beach rustweed casts.
