Carpotesta pellícere is an immobile plant cell eater. It's basically a simple amoeba, with a trick up its protosleeves. To lure its prey, it emits small pieces of protein into the primordial soup. When a cell starts to absorb the protein, the pellícere send out a pseudopod and catches the prey. It's a risky strategy, because if prey doesn't show up fast enough, the protein will float too far away, and the pellícere will have to produce a new one.
