The '''gliding featherbelly foi''' split off from its ancestor, the [[Featherbelly Foi|featherbelly foi]], and migrated to LadyM Ocean. It takes a more aggressive approach to feeding. Instead of floating through the water, it will jump out of the water occasionally. Its ancestors fins have grown wider, to keep it in the air longer, although it never breaks contact with the waters surface. When it jumps and then glides for a short distance, microbes get caught in the hairs on its feathers, of which there are three, one between the fins, and front and back. They are digested on the surface of the feathers. Jumping out of the water also keeps them out of danger of any opportunistic predators.
