The maefloat split from the maer, and grew to macroscopic size. It is the first organism to spend a significant part of its life in the Masonian atmosphere. Its membrane has grown even larger to hold more air. It grows in the water and has adapted to quicker-moving water in rivers. When it grows large enough, it starts floating up very high. It can float for a long time, but comes down to the water during the long night to obtain water and nutrients. It also collects moisture from the atmosphere through its roots. When it is ready to reproduce, it makes a tiny spore capsule which releases a lot of spores into the air which may land in places suitable for growth. Then it starts all over.
