The mason rustcell split from it's ancestor on Mason. They evolved from the rusty symbiocells that were brought over when seeds from the orbit voltflora landed there. Without the orbit voltflora they could not survive well and they slipped into hibernation. Occasionally, a cell would reanimate, if only just long enough to reproduce.
