This means even more of purple needles can grow. Like its ancestors it will become dormant in the winter time. The branches fall off and a protective cap grows over the top of the trunk until the end of winter. When spring comes the new branches will rapidly grow using the energy they stored up from last fall. Once fully grown they will produce an orange flower. This will get pollinated and then turn into small bright orange berries which the local fauna can eat and disperse the seeds in their dung. |
