Ancestor:Descendants:

The Memorial Fortresscrab replaced its ancestor in the High Grasslands. It is physically identical to its ancestor except for being smaller. Instead of large sprawling spires, the memorial fortresscrab will build large long mounds that are almost as long as they are high. The base of these mounds are built with stones and pieces of carapace from the dead. The biggest difference between the Memorial Fortresscrab and its ancestor, however, is in its behavior. Memorial Fortresscrabs will tend to their dead after a Siege Lizardworm attack. They do this for multiple reasons including preventing scavengers from attacking, keeping their territory clean, and to use the remaining pieces of carapace from their fallen as building materials and for the base of their mounds. This last reason is quite astonishing because memorial fortresscrabs will not use the remains of their fallen for anything construction purposes except for parts of the base of a mound or for a few important "chambers". Some of the chambers in which carapaces are used heavily are the Queen Chamber, the Mating Chamber, the "Nusery", and a "Memorial Chamber". This last chamber uses the most carapaces in it's construction and the in the center of the chamber are some of the larger memorial fortresscrab carapaces standing straight up from the soil. Memorial Fortresscrabs will also tend to older members who in turn help raise the young.

Fortresscrabs will attempt to 'save' as much of their comrades' remains as possible by stealing from the young, the weak, and the old Lizardworms who feed last. If a Juvenile Lizardworm wanders away from the safety of it's group/parents, Fortresscrabs will often attack it in swarms scattering if an adult approaches to help. Usually females and smaller, quicker males will perform this task.
