The miniswarmers genus group replaced its ancestor, the mini swarmer, chubby swarmer, jointed swarmer, leafed swarmer, ghost miniswarmer and other mini swarmer relatives. This genus group are much bigger than their microswarmer relatives and supplement their photosynthesis by feeding on plankton and/or deterious. Like most swarmers they absorb red sunlight with their green chloroplasts.
With a more varied diet, they can be more active and even have camouflage or decorative coloring. Like their name implies they travel in large swarms following the blooms of phytoplankton in the water. They can survive in both freshwater and saltwater and in different temperature water ranging from hot tropical swamps to cold glacial rivers. Some have even been known to go down as deep as the twilight zone. However they do stay where there is some sunlight to benefit from the energy boost it provides.
