Splitting from its ancestor, the river paddlefoot has adapted fully to an aquatic existance and now populates the Irinya River and Bog. Feeding on decaying plant matter and scavenging on dead carcasses, it can go deeper into the water than its ancestor and thus does not commonly come into competition with it. They lay their hard-shelled eggs in the ground on the riverbank. The mother stays in the general area of the nest in order to watch over it. When they hatch the young stick close to their mothers and will follow her actions until they are old enough to survive on their own.
Though fully capable of swimming, they typically walk along the river floor on their two pairs of limbs and simply rise up to breath or escape predators. The young have an advantage against predators as they produce no scent for the first few weeks of their life. This comes in handy should anything happen to the mother while she is raising them, or when they are hiding from potential predators.
