The rust shrub developed to grow above the level of its ancestor, the rust weed, in the Ittiz Swamp. It uses similar metabolic processes to survive. In fact, its trunk consists mainly of solid iron. Like most Earth trees, only the bark of the trunk is alive, while the core is the dead remnants of previous layers of growth. In this case, those layers consist of the rust shrub's signature cellular iron structures.
