The savanna crystal has split from the ancient binucleus hollow crystal. It has moved out of the Slarti Swamp and into Huggs-Yokto Savanna. It has also spread to Huggs Scrub. To beat competitors for sunlight, they have grown to be about eight meters tall.
The savanna crystal has not changed very much from its ancestor other than size. It retains the hollow core, which is why it was able to grow bigger.
