The sensitive speck split from its ancestor, the chlorocytus, it now only swims with one flagellum, that pulls it forward through the water. The other flagellum now curls around the cell body and is sensitive to touch, alerting the sensitive speck to any potential danger that brushes against the flagellum. The cell body has also become tougher and more streamlined.
