The ancestor of the '''shaillor''', the [[shellear]], migrated to another area in search of food. Its previous habitat, had too much competition over
Shaillors don't go onto land anymore. However, if beached by a storm or strong currents, they are usually able to survive long enough to get back into the water. They fill their shells with air now, rather than water. This allows them to regulate buoyancy, something like a paper nautilus. (Shaillors even a shell membrane that is superficially similar to the paper nautilus.) This adaptation allows them to migrate vertically in water column, so they occupy both a pelagic and benthic niche. More specifically, they live 0-150 meters below sea level.
