The Trifilter has replaced its ancestor. The trigon had become in desperate need of a new food source because of the rise in predators. So it started to filter feed since there were no mobile filter feeders. But it has become smaller so there would be a less likely chance of predators seeing it (this is also why it has no lights because it has no eyes to see with).
