The widefire ciliognathus has diversified from ancestors by widening its mouth cavity, in order to allow it to catch more food faster, in order to feed its rapid metabolism. The widefire has also devised a useful defensive technique, and this is to burn off excess food instead of storing it. Where they are most concentrated, one can find literal "hotspots" within the lake that can cause minor burns.
