Ancestor:Descendants:

Splitting from its ancestor, the abyssal muckraker has adapted to life in darkness of the abyss. Growing to great sizes compared to its relatives due to abyssal gigantism, it slowly moves across the sea-floor, sifting it with its numerous tiny mouth tentacles as it does so. A new evolutionary adaption was the transformation of its tusks into a segmented limb. While very stiff and not capable of a wide range of motions, it aids them in mating by providing a greater grasping capacity for them. They appear to almost drag themselves forward with these limbs, though in reality they are merely probing the sand in front of them in an ever relentless search for food.

They reproduce twice a year after mating and will produce numerous spores that will float about within the abyss before eventually developing into miniature versions of the adults that will settle upon the sea-floor.
