The balloon bubbleweed split from its ancestor river bubbleweed. It has grown almost to twice its ancestors size. It only grows leaves at the top which are held up by hydrogen-filled bubbles. This keeps the leaves away from swimming herbivores that would normally eat them. Sometimes the bubbles break off. When they land, seeds inside grow into new balloon bubbleweed.
