The beach blanket has replaced its ancestor in the Flisch, Krakow and King Beaches. Individual cells now have a looser bonding, which enables them to be separated for short distances without losing touch with the colony. They have intercellular communication array that consists of chemicals transferring over short distances in the cavities between the cells.
This new mobility helps the Beach Blanket in the night, when their light source is dim and they are weak. With the mobility they can "catch" other microscopic creatures by covering them and then eating them alive. When times are really rough, the colony might even venture so far as eating macroscopic creatures that felt like sleeping on the beach.
