The cave rustmold split from its ancestor and formed a symbiotic relationship with the cavedron. They moved into the caves after a orbit voltflora seed was fired into it by accident. There they found nutrients to survive, but could not reproduce efficiently without the voltflora. In order to prosper, they started living on the bushdron that lived an the cave entrance. These would get eaten by the walkerpedes, which would expel the iron spore cases elsewhere in their waste. In exchange, the rust mold provided enough nutrients to the bushdron that they no longer needed to rely solely on photosynthesis, which allowed the bushdrons to move into the caves, resulting in the cavedrons. The bushdron uses the minerals in the wall to fuel their growth, and the waste is used by the cave rustmold. The cave rustmold consume reduced compounds, which are oxidized in the cells, and the electrons are channeled into respiratory chains, producing ATP. Thanks to the drooling wall, they have also spread to the Darwin Water Table.
