The dune sauceback replaced its ancestor, the falsequill sauceback in Yokto Dunes. There the soil was almost liquid and the saucebacks could literally swim through the sands. This meant it did not have to dig an hole and wait in one spot it could actually swim towards the sounds of walking and snatch prey. Using its acute sense of smell and "tremor sense" it could locate walking prey for miles. It became so good at this it could tell weak or sick walking from healthy walking and would pick off the weak prey first. One of their favorite prey is the dugger since they live underground as well.
Their exoskeleton has gotten sleeker and their limbs are made for digging in a swimming motion rather than walking. They spend their entire lives under the sands and only come to the surface to breathe if the sand does not have enough air. They mate during the winter underground. Their eggs are laid in the spring and the babies grow up fast. Many do not make it to adulthood since other adults prey on them. They get most of their water from their prey but can dig down deep to the water table to drink as well.
