Ancestor:Descendants:

The filtershroom replaced its ancestor, the seaside shroom. With so many other shrooms inland it was pushed out to the beach. There it thrived both on the beach and in the coastal waters around the island. Sadly the inland species died off. Its cap and feathery filters now face the waves rather than just sitting on top. At the bottom of the cap it grows resistant spores which break off in the current and float around until they find a new place to grow. Its strong deep roots not only keep it anchored in the sand but also expels excess salt it obtains from the water. While it can grow on the beach,it grows best when submerged in the water where it can filter-feed better.
