Ancestor:Descendants:

The flashline split from its ancestor and have improved their ability to interlock with other cells. They now form lines of cells and can stretch thousands of cells long. If predators get too curious they explode in luminosity. They use organic compounds to produce a luciferin, which provides their glow, and are usually found on rocks or growing on dead organisms. They use photosynthesis to fuel their growth, but rely more on organic compounds. They can be found in the water table underneath the caves, where photosynthesis is less important.
