Ancestor:Descendants:

The floating pea split from its ancestor, it now relies on other lifeforms to churn up the nutrients in the water to survive. As adults they float on the surface of the water, their fins twisted so that the wide side faces the sky. Their mouths are large and filled with air to stay afloat while the opening itself is quite small often even closed to keep the water from entering. when spawning the adult opens its mouth and sinks underwater where it can spawn at its full potential, after releasing the reproductive material it dies. Adults can form massive mats that cover large areas of ocean, breaks in the mat caused by waves are quickly mended just by the organisms drifting toward one another. These mats are just one organism deep though.

As young they will swim underneath the mat hiding in the tentacles that hang down, they absorb nutrients churned up by other organisms and will actively seek out such nutrient clouds. they quickly develop into adults after about four days and live out the rest of their lives being a part of the mat.
