The frost crystal replaced it's ancestor the bumble crystal. This crystal is identical to it's ancestor except it lives on the surface of the snow taller and deeper than it's other snow dwelling ancestors. This was caused by the softening of the snow and glacial ice at the edges of contact from venting of internal heat. Since the crystal could no longer keep itself up with the soft ice and snow it had to receded back down to the surface of the tundra. Now the roots anchor as far as four meters deep into the tundra.
