Ancestor:Descendants:

The fumeballs have split from their ancestor. They have developed a symbiotic relationship with the bleeder worm. Small fumeballs are attached to the bleeder worm's egg and start to grow when they feel the warmth of the host. They grow all around the worm and produce a strong and pungent smell. This stops the host or any other creature disturbing the balls and the worm. The balls also secrete an enzyme that prevents the wound from scabbing over, keeping it open and fresh. In return for giving the worms protection, the fumeballs are guaranteed a good position in the sun and a safer reproduction method with small balls attached to the worm's egg wall.
