The gömböc roj split from its ancestor and moved to the Elerd Temperate Coast. In favor of a thicker shell it gave up the ability to swim and lives as a ground dweller in shallow waters, snatching up any sufficiently small organism that swims or floats by with its extendable trunk. It has a low metabolism and large fat storage due to its feeding habits, but in case of not finding enough food it will resort to eat sand to get the nutritious particles between the grains. On occasions it will feed on carcasses, but with a low success due to their lack of teeth or similar structures. The gömböc roj's main senses are electroreception and smell/taste. It differentiates between food and foe by the size; sensing a large, moving organism will cause it to retract the legs into the shell.
The gömböc rojs breed all in the course of three days in early spring, timed by the moon cycles. They wander into deeper waters with larger amount of rocks and growths to give birth up to five young. Compared to the adults, the young have thinner, lighter shells and longer legs and they can use the reactive propulsion employed by their ancestor for short bursts as a method of escape.
