Ancestor:Descendants:

The ice gelatin split from its ancestor, along with hydrogen producing proteins and now powerful antifreeze this species now makes a protein that aids in the formation of ice. It releases this protein into the water by its pores. While the ice forms it also releases tiny bubbles of hydrogen to be caught in the ice, this makes the entire structure lighter.

During the day it will float over the water encased in their ice shells, it will stay in the air as long as the sun is up to get the most out of the day. Once the sun starts setting the ice gelatin will destroy its shell by releasing substances that cancel out the protein into the ice which then allows it the release its bodies hydrogen content.
