Ancestor:Descendants:

Splitting from its ancestor, the infernal scuttler thrives off the coast of Jaydoh Island. Coming out only at night to scavenge the dead and clean the sand of debris, the infernal scuttler has grown due to the effects of island gigantism. It has few predators due to its habits, though those that do attempt to prey upon it must take care to avoid attacking it from behind lest it suffer the pair of stingers located there. Both are connected to a pair of venom sacs that contain a poison that causes a burning sensation. Thankfully, for predators at least, the poison denatures quickly and is rarely fatal, though it causes quite a painful sting in the meanwhile.

Spawning in masse twice a year, the young travel through the plankton before settling down and molting. They then take a year to reach adulthood, much longer than that of their cousins, but they have benefit of both a larger size and a longer lifespan of up to five years. While not many will reach this ripe old age, those that do can be assured to have produced dozens upon dozens of offspring, assuring the continued survival of their species.
