The ironpin split from its ancestor and now lives an amphibious life. It normally collects iron by burrowing its head, sometimes even half its body, into the iron rich river bank. The front limbs have become short and scoop-like to allow the fauna to dig into the dirt, there are spikes on the front half of the body to help keep it in place after being embedded in the bank. The ironpin's four hind limbs have become flexible ribbons that are used to propel it through the water and its body has become smooth to make movement in the water easy. It lives in tight colonies along the banks, in and out of the water, but this is due to their populations naturally being high and individuals gathering at the best spots for feeding rather than actual social interactions. Land life is clumsy for the ironpin, but it is common to see them wandering around several meters from the waters edge. If they are lucky they will stumble upon the carcass of some fallen rustling, as the body is full of already processed iron they can spend days feeding on a single corpse.
