The lactic foi has picked up some morsus partners that create lactic acid. These morsus partners are kept in a simple bulbous cavity inside the lactic foi's body. While the structure is simple, the cells themselves are notable for their specialized function. The cell membranes are slightly thicker than the other body cells, and each cell has its own nucleus. While separate, they are closely linked through plasmodesmata, preventing leakage of the lactic acid. The bulb cells send signalling molecules to the surrounding cells, influencing replacement rate of the bulb cells.
The lactic acid is passively delivered down tubes of dead cells. Their production of lactic acid allows them to break down the calcium-reinforced cell walls of lithotrophic species in the hexmalaphoelia and umbröschla genus groups.
Trivia: Its genus name is a reference to "Bossman", the leader of the Amoeba Boys (incompetent amoeba villains) in The Powerpuff Girls.
