Ancestor:Descendants:

The lanternbranch replaced its ancestor, the drakolantern. It now grows many branches in which a cluster leaves grow. Within the leaves is its spore chamber. Like its ancestor it will use its bioluminescent leaves to attract fauna. They sense the fauna when it touches their branches and then will spray them with sticky spores. While some do not stick and will travel by the wind, others will stick to the fauna's body and fall off in new locations. Their branch has become tougher so it can both retain moisture in the dry desert and tundra but insulate it from the extreme temperatures. They retain water in their roots and can go dormant when environmental conditions go bad.
