Ancestor:Descendants:

The luminucrown split from its ancestor and spread downstream. Its pseudopods have hardened into a crown-like structure, helping it to float upright at the water surface. A side effect is that it cannot move as easily as before, but it still uses its flagella to some extent in order to move to lighter areas. Another interesting development is the tear-like shape on each of its former pseudopods. These organs are used to store, break down and dispose of any excess salt it accidentally absorbs, and are the luminucrown's way to cope with the saltier environment. Therefore, these organs are remarkably larger on luminucrowns in the salt lake and bog, compared to their upstream relatives.
