Ancestor:Descendants:

The mandate bandersnatch replaced its ancestor, the slender bandersnatch. After being without sunlight for millions of years they eventually went blind and lost all of their pigment. They appear greenish from their green blood. Their crest and wing-leaves have shrunk to just vestigial parts since they are useless for attracting a mate in the dark with. Their typmanic membranes have grown huge so they can hear better. In addition their butt-nostrils have developed a primitive smelling organ. This allows them to smell rotting food in the darkness.

Like their ancestors they use their strong jaws to chew the carrion they scavenge from mandate gossalizard kills, but they must be careful not to get attacked themselves. If they get attacked they will use their sharp front claws to defend themselves. They also have been known to use rocks to break open bones for their marrow or will toss small stones ahead of them to hear what's ahead.

They travel in small bands of 2 to 3 individuals. These are usually family groups of parents with their offspring or just of a mating pair. They only give birth to one offspring at a time and will send their offspring off on their own before having another.
