The marine mine layer split from its ancestor. They are magenta allowing for more effective photosynthesis. Their seed bubbles are mostly water filled with some hydrogen; after they detach they arm and burst when struck by fauna, the seeds drop to the bottom quickly. The bubbles pop via nematocyst like suicide cells that begin mass apoptosis in the bubble skin. The main stalk is more rigid to make up for the lack of support from the bubbles.
