Ancestor:Descendants:

The marsh chut split from its ancestor the river chut. It has gotten slightly smaller but is more or less the same. It now eats the sunstalks as its main food source and is black in color to blend in with them. Like its ancestor its amphibious and has water tight nostrils. However since its food source grows on the river banks rather than the water it will spend more time out of the water than in.

They live in social groups of up to 10 individuals with unrelated females and two or three males, usually related. The groups have a home territory along the river and the resident males defend it viciously. They are known as "beach masters".

Since they spend more of their time out of their river than their ancestors females can have their babies in the pouch. During this time of year females will not cross the river. Once the offspring have grown they can cross freely again. Babies grow very fast and drink a lot of milk. They usually only have 1 to 2 babies when giving birth.
