The marshroot split from its ancestor. When some of the taigashroot visited the Detoxic River, they found a place where there was more food and more opportunities. In order to adapt to a more aquatic biome, its fur has become thinner and has even vanished on its feet, nostrils, and tail. It has also evolved webbed feet that allow it to swim in the water. Since there is more food in the marshes than in the West Drake Taiga, it has become slightly bigger than its ancestor. Due to the fact that there are no plents for the marshroot to eat, it instead eats river tailhoppers and uses their red blood for attracting mates. However, their biggest change is that they have evolved an ability called autotomy, which allows the marshroot to rip off their tail and regrow a new one when captured by predators. This ability is much like Earth's lizards.
Much like its ancestor, it lives in groups of 8 members that dig burrows in the ground. However, they have become much more territorial towards other groups. They exhibit sexual dimorphism; males have larger underbites while the females are much shorter. Females also have a pouch, while males do not. They both have a brown and white coloration to help blend in with the dirt when hunting. They live for about 12 years.
