The needlevine split from its ancestor, the rootvineberry and moved to the polar biomes. There its leaves evolved into needles where they could stay purple all year round. They lost their berries since it took too much energy and now asexually reproduce through regenerative fragmentation. This means if they break they can just keep growing as two separate flora. Their bark has gotten thicker to help keep in water. Due to the low temperatures it also has developed its own anti-freeze to keep its cells from freezing and ultimately bursting.
