Ancestor:Descendants:

The obsidiroot replaced its ancestor, doubling in size. It inhabits all Dixon's woodland biomes, spreading to even the adjacent Rainforest and Swamp biomes.

Though it is essentially the same as its ancestor above ground, its the underside that is its true strong point. The main root initially acts like a drill, diving and twisting deep into the dirt. Once that's done, thick tendrils branch out to gather enough nutrients as possible. The whole structure is tougher than the flora's wood, and when considering that this species grows in thick forests, the roots pose an near impenetrable wall for other flora and underground fauna.

Individuals live upwards of 60 years. It takes each spore a week to germinate and a 10 years to start producing spores, producing spores annually.
