The oceanskimmer split from its ancestor, the hexskimmer, and moved into the predator-free waters of Mason's ocean. It now feeds on the abundant glasspheres and filtermaer that dot the sea, the sole herbivorous species for now. It still uses its ancestor's method of swimming upside-down at the surface, picking off the various floating flora, and has evolved a pair of mobile grasping appendages on its mouth that it uses to pull food in. In addition, it has developed webbing between each pair of flippers, thus increasing the total surface area of its tail to improve swimming. Rather than using its ancestor's asexual reproduction method, the oceanskimmer has developed sexual reproduction, of a sort, with each individual having both a 'male' equivalent sex and a 'female' equivalent sex. Genetic material is released into the water around them, but self-fertilization can also occur in times of low population.
